A 32-year-old Mississauga man has been remanded into police custody after being charged in connection with a fatal motorcycle accident that authorities allege was the result of a road race.

Two men were riding on Mavis Road near Highway 401 around 7:15 p.m. when the 31-year-old victim lost control and crashed into a sign on the on-ramp to the 401 eastbound.

He was pronounced dead in hospital.

The 32-year-old driver of the second motorcycle left the scene but later turned himself in to police, OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told ctvtoronto.ca on Saturday morning.

The man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while stunt driving, criminal negligence causing death and driving while under suspension.

The suspect made a brief appearance in court Saturday but was remanded into custody until April 6.
