One person is dead and three others are injured after they were hit by a vehicle in Toronto on Wednesday, in what police believe may have been an intentional act.
Toronto police said the collision happened in an apartment building parking lot at around 12:40 p.m. in the Victoria Park Avenue and Cassandra Boulevard area, just north of Lawrence Avenue.
Insp. Keri Fernandes said the victims were hit by a single motor vehicle.
“Three of those people were transported to hospital and one of them was treated at the scene,” Fernandes said.
Paramedics told Motorcycle accident toronto today two women were taken to hospital in critical life-threatening condition. A third person was taken in critical but non-life-threatening condition.
“As a result of their injuries, one adult female succumbed to her injuries at the hospital,” Fernandes said.
The other victims’ injuries have been deemed non-life-threatening, she said. All of the individuals struck are adults.
The driver of the vehicle, a man, remained at the scene and has been arrested, Fernandes said.
Toronto police’s homicide unit is now investigating along with the traffic services unit.
“There is some information that these people were struck intentionally and that’s why homicide is investigating,” Fernandes said.
There is no word on a possible motive or what the relationship is between the driver and the accused, if any.
“We’re at the very early stages of the investigation and I can’t say what was the precursor to anything that happened,” Fernandes said.
There is also no word on if the driver or victims lived at the apartment building where the incident happened.
