After lying for more than 100 years in a cemetery in France, the remains of an unknown soldier who fought in the First World War were brought home to St. John’s, N.L., on Saturday. The French government transferred the remains to Canada during a repatriation ceremony at the Beaumont Hamel Newfoundland Memorial, which honours Newfoundlanders who fought in the Battle of the Somme.
