Toronto Metropolitan University professor Usha George said in an interview on Thursday that immigration contributing in large part to Canada’s population nearly hitting 40 million people was a benefit to the country because it would go towards the economy, and that it was helping to fill gaps in the workforce. However, she added that work still needs to be done on housing and the labour force, as new Canadians still face barriers to finding places to live, and due to restrictions in place in some professions, some people are unable to use their skills in the profession they trained for back home.
