Man rushed to hospital, SIU investigating after motorcycle crash involving police

A man in his 30s is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he crashed his motorcycle during an interaction with police Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities refused to give details on the incident but a Toronto police spokesperson told CP24 that police were involved in the incident.

Toronto Traffic Services confirmed Wednesday evening that the province’s Special Investigations Unit is now looking into the matter.

The crash happened in Etobicoke near the intersection of Kipling Avenue and Evans Avenue, just south of the Gardiner Expressway around 12:30 p.m., EMS said.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle that crashed.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency called in to investigate whenever police are involved in an incident resulting in a death or serious injury.
