Motorcycle falls over Hwy. 427 overpass

A motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday morning after his bike went airborne over the Highway 427 overpass and onto Sherway Drive.

Paramedics were seen working on a patient in a grassy area next to the roadway before an air ambulance transported the 35-year-old man from Caledonia, Ont.to a local trauma centre in Toronto.

Initial reports suggested two motorcycles were riding side by side but police say only one rider was involved in the accident which took place at around 7:45 a.m.

“(The motorcyclist) for unknown reasons lost control and hit the cement barrier along the right shoulder of the highway,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release. “The rider and motorcycle went airborne over the barrier, then travelled down the embankment to a grassy area below.”

Police said the driver would have likely been killed if he hadn’t landed on the grass.
