Motorcyclist dead after head-on crash in Welland, Ont.

WELLAND, Ont. — A motorcyclist is dead following a head-on crash Wednesday evening in Welland, Ont.

Niagara Region police the 47-year-old man was riding his Harley-Davidson behind a group of six other motorcyclists when he decided to pass them.

But as he entered the oncoming lane (on Moyer Rd.), he crashed head-on into an SUV driven by a 72-year-old Welland woman.

Police say the motorcycle rider suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV was airlifted to a Hamilton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation and no names have been released.
