Motorcyclist loses foot after crash

A man’s foot was severed following a crash early Sunday morning that saw a motorcycle collide with a car in Toronto’s east end.

The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. on McCowan Road near Ellesmere Road, when the northbound motorcycle collided with a Volvo as it was turning.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and was rushed to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Toronto police said the man suffered serious injuries to his leg and had his left foot amputated following the crash. He is expected to survive.

A woman was taken into custody at the scene.

Staff-Sgt. Brian Bowman said Traffic Services is still looking over the details of the crash to determine what charges will be laid.

“It appears the car made a left turn in front of the motorcycle and did not allow for it to proceed,” Bowman said.

“It will depend on the speed of the motorcycle, the ability of the car driver to see it, those types of things.”

Bowman said that it did not appear that speed or alcohol were factors.
