The collision happened at Tomken and Derry roads at around 6:50 p.m., Peel Regional Police said.
According to the SIU, the motorcycle was travelling north toward Derry Road when it collided with the cruiser.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer in the cruiser was on duty at the time of the collision, police said.
The SIU – which is called in whenever police are involved in a death or serious injury – have invoked their mandate and are now probing the fatal collision.
“The SIU is urging anyone who witnessed this collision or might have information about this collision to contact the lead investigator,” the SIU’s Jason Gennaro told reporters at the scene Sunday night.
Gennaro could not say whether lights still visibly flashing on the police cruiser at the scene had been activated prior to the collision.
Four investigators, three forensic investigators and a collision reconstruction expert have bene assigned to look into the case.
Tomken Road has been shut down for several hours between Derry Road and Pacific Gate as police investigate the collision.
