One dead, four injured in long weekend car crashes

TORONTO – Police are reporting only one fatality in the province mid-way through the Victoria Day long weekend.

But they continue asking the public to be vigilant, especially after a crash early this morning that sent three people to hospital with serious injuries.

Provincial police in Wasaga Beach, near Barrie, Ont., say when they attempted to stop a car around 2:30 a.m. Sunday it kept going before leaving the road and rolling into a ditch.

Officers are also reporting a 19-year-old motorcycle rider from Richmond Hill suffering serious injuries after flying off his bike around 4 p.m. Saturday in Simcoe County, east of Barrie.

Police have also now identified Mitchell Kelley as the 18-year-old man who died after flipping his car early Saturday on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Niagara Falls.

Officers continue to be out in full force on roads and waterways, conducting spot RIDE checks and reminding drivers of Ontario’s tough new impaired driving laws.
