Toronto police released an image Thursday of a pickup truck they say is linked to a fatal hit and run in Etobicoke.
The collision happened at the corner of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Second Street around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday.
In a news release, police said the driver was turning right onto Second Street northbound when they struck a 59-year-old man who was crossing the road.
The victim was taken to hospital, where he died. His identity has not been released.
The pickup is described as a “dark coloured” Ford. The driver was last seen headed northbound on Second Street, Duty Insp. Craig Young told reporters at the scene on Wednesday.
A number of people who witnessed the deadly collision tried to provide first aid to the victim, Young said.
He urged the driver to get a lawyer and surrender to police.
Conditions at the time were “terrible” due to rain, darkness and poor visibility, and Young cautioned drivers to be more aware of road conditions.
“People have to slow down and be mindful of their surroundings and be mindful of pedestrians crossing intersections,” he said.
Anyone with information or video that could be helpful to investigators is asked to contact Toronto police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
