Speed a factor in fatal Gardiner motorcycle crash

A fatal motorcycle crash closed the Gardiner Expressway along Toronto’s lakeshore early Friday morning.

Toronto police said a man riding a motorcycle in the Gardiner’s eastbound lanes near the Humber River lost control of his vehicle and struck the centre barrier at about 1 a.m.

Const. Clint Stibbe said the rider was ejected off his bike and landed in the westbound lanes. He was then struck by several vehicles.

Speed played a factor in the crash, he said. Police have yet to identify the motorist.

The Gardiner was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash. The highway has since reopened in both directions.
