TORONTO – Ontario Provincial Police say there have been two fatalities on highways they patrol this Victoria Day weekend.
A 67-year-old female passenger on a motorcycle that collided with a minivan died in hospital of her injuries in Hawkesbury on Saturday.
Sgt. Dave Woodford says the other victim died in a single-vehicle rollover in Dufferin County.
Provincial police are out inspecting vehicles on Highway 400 north of Toronto. Woodford says 16 unsafe vehicles were pulled off the road since Friday, two of them this morning.
He says police are seeing a lot of traffic still heading north out of Toronto as people take advantage of the weather and make daytrips to Wasaga Beach — but not many returning to the city yet.
Police have extra patrols out looking for aggressive and speeding drivers and have also deployed the OPP aircraft.
