Motorcyclist suffers serious injury in accident that killed dog

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after he struck a dog with his motorcycle in Blackstock and lost control of his bike Saturday.

Police say shortly after 8:30 p.m., the driver of a Yamaha off-road motorcycle struck a dog on Church street and lost control of his vehicle.

The 30-year-old driver, investigators say, was rushed to hospital by ambulance with a serious head injury but was later taken to a Toronto trauma centre via air ambulance, where he remains in serious condition.

The dog died at the scene.

Roads were closed in the area for several hours as Durham Regional Police’s collision investigation unit conducted their investigation.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Const. Wannop of the Traffic Services Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5274.
