A man has died after his motorcycle struck at least two pedestrians in a busy downtown intersection Saturday afternoon, police say.
The collision happened just before 3 p.m. on Yonge Street, north of Gerrard.
Police say the motorcyclist was travelling northbound on the busy stretch of Yonge when he switched from the centre lane to a curb lane and struck a female pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street.
Const. Hugh Smith said the man was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a pole.
“His bike travelled another five metres forward and unfortunately struck another pedestrian that was on the sidewalk,” Smith said.
The motorcyclist, a man in his forties, was rushed to hospital but died a short time later. The female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries while the male pedestrian suffered minor injuries.
Police have closed the northbound lanes on Yonge St. near Gerrard while they investigate.
They are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or events just before incident to call (416) 808-1900.
